The Metropolis Project - MEtodologie e Tecnologie integRate e sOstenibili Per l’adattamentO e La sIcurezza di Sistemi urbani, aims at defining methodologies and sustainable, innovative technologies to assess and manage natural and man-caused hazards in urban environment. It also aims at outlining mitigation strategies based on Decision Support Systems tools. The projects is composed of 6 WP (Pork Packages) and 1 demonstrator. The urban environment is presented as a complex system defined as follows:
- Physical System: buildings, streets, lifelines
- Functional system: it entails activities perfeormed
- Economical System: it takes into account the economy of the above 2 systems
- Social System: it includes citizens and their life in the urban environment
The project’s goals are the following: Development of innovative Tools and Technologies, to reduce the risk from natural and man-caused hazard, with the involvement of different stakeholders from the Construction Industry; Development of Decision Support Systems, based on surveys carried out with lidar or satellite technology or monitoring network, which will allow fast assessments of safety, both for routine conditions and after a disaster event.
